Well, what a crazy few days it has been. With the information flowing from the CDC, the state government, the Whitehouse, and even the Bartlesville City Council, it has been fast and furious. I was on a conference call with Governor Stitt today, and he confirmed the reluctance of everyone, but the nearly unanimous cooperation that has happened in the state. Schools closing, businesses closing, and the recommendations for all gatherings have led to unprecedented action on the part of churches. Nearly every church in our city has moved to online worship services or has cancelled altogether for the coming few weeks.
The crowd size recommendation went from 250 to 50 to 10... I thought “oh lord, if there is one righteous man, will you please spare our city...”
It was a least good for a momentary laugh in the stressful situation.
Today, students from our church served in Bartlesville because the host of their Oklahoma City mission trip cancelled. Instead, they have nearly wiped out our March Madness cleanup, have served various places in our community, and have started the process of calling everyone over 60 years old in our system to check on them and pray for them. I couldn’t be more proud of those kids!
For our church, I made the decision yesterday: ALL OF OUR ON CAMPUS SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES ARE CANCELLED FOR THE NEXT 14 DAYS. HOWEVER, OUR SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP SERVICES WILL BE BROADCAST AT 8:30, AND 11AM ON SUNDAY ONLINE.
This was not an easy decision, and one I never thought I would have to make. But all things considered, I think it was the right decision. As I will share Sunday, I do believe God is going to use this for his glory in our church.
This Sunday March 22, and next Sunday March 29th, we are asking all of you to worship with us in your normal worship time through our website: www.mybfbc.org, (THE CAMPUS WILL BE CLOSED) The video will play from the front page of the website on Sunday, and should be easy to access on your computer, tablet, or your mobile phone if you have internet access there. If you cannot access the worship service online, we will have the service prerecorded and it can be delivered to your home on DVD.
Those of you needing to give your tithes and offerings, there will be a new, simple way to do that from you mobile device on Sunday the 29th. Otherwise feel free to drop off or mail to the church office.
Let’s gather at the same times and continue the spirit of unity even if we cant be together physically in this crazy time. I would suggest you gather in groups of up to ten, worship with us together, and then have lunch. The Message will be “the Power of the Gospel in times of Crisis.”
I will also be making a podcast that will keep you informed about how we are handling the crisis, and how we can keep growing forward in spite of the circumstances. This should be available Friday.
God Bless, and keep telling people about Jesus,
Pastor James B.
